Accounting for Climate Change - What and How to Measure
14TH EMAN CONFERENCE, JANUARY 24-25, 2011 BUDAPEST
Host: Institute for Environmental Sciences, Corvinus University of Budapest, Budapest, Fővám tér 8, H-1093.
The conference will focus on the assessment of business costs and benefits of climate change as well as mitigation options. There is growing evidence and scientific consensus about global warming. Companies are challenged by uninsurable risks from unpredictable weather conditions as well as new governmental regulations, like the EU Emission Trading System, carbon taxes, building codes and energy efficiency standards. At the same time new business opportunities also arise from energy efficiency innovations, product developments, new business models, and other mitigation and adaptation potentials. The conference will be the first one in systematically accounting for business costs of these challenges and for analysing the role of accounting to develop economic business potentials.
Papers are welcome in the following topics:
- Costs of climate change for companies
- Accounting as support for the development of carbon business opportunities
- Costs and benefits of mitigation options
- Ecological footprint and carbon footprint at organisational level
- Input-output cost analysis
- Measuring carbon neutrality
- Cost benefit analysis for enegy saving innovations
- Accounting for credits in emission trading schemes
- Accounting for emission leaking in emission trading schemes
- Sectoral analysis on the econommic consequences of climate change (e.g. insurance companies, agriculture, etc.)
- Any new theoretical contribution to the development of the environmental accounting field
- Country studies, case studies, surveys and empirical analyses of innovative approaches
The Hungarian Cleaner Production Centre will organise a company workshop titled "Environmental Innovations" within conference program.
The deadline for abstract submission is 6th December, 2010. Notification of acceptance will be sent by 17th December. Authors of accepted abstracts are required to send their extended abstract for publication in the conference proceedings by 7th January.
